How booking works

  1. Choose your instructor.

Each instructor's rates are on their profile, and cover instruction only.

  2. Pay a $20 deposit.

It comes off the price of your first lesson.

  3. Your instructor messages you within 48 hours to agree a time and place.

If you can't agree a time within 14 days, the deposit is refunded in full.

Why private lessons?

Learning comes in many forms, and each one has its own purpose:

  • A workshop before a social gives you fun movements to explore at the party later, so it's built for a big room.
  • A festival workshop usually teaches the artist's signature pattern or move, so there's rarely time to go deep.
  • A group class is pitched at the average level of the room, and everyone in it has different goals.
  • A fundamentals class can give you great training drills, but has less time to connect technique to improvising with the music.

All of these are fun and valuable. Because of their purpose, though, individual attention is limited, and instructors have to skip many details that matter for you but sit outside the class's goal.

Private lessons are built around your questions. A good instructor can watch you dance and know exactly what will help you improve, so your progress is faster and more focused.

Frequently asked questions

Why take a private lesson instead of a group class?
A group class is pitched at the average level of the room, so individual attention is limited and the detail that matters most to you may sit outside the class's goal. A private lesson is built around your own questions, which is what makes progress faster and more focused.
How much does a private bachata lesson cost?
Each instructor sets their own rates for individual, couple and group lessons, and they are listed on that instructor's profile. The rates cover instruction only. A $20 deposit books your first lesson and comes off its price.
How does booking work?
You pay a $20 deposit on the instructor's profile, and it is credited against your first lesson. They contact you within 48 hours, usually the same day, to agree a time. You pay them the balance at the lesson itself.
Where do the lessons take place?
Listed rates are for instruction only. You and your instructor agree where the lesson takes place, and any studio or room costs are arranged between you.
Can I book a lesson as a couple or a group?
Yes. Every instructor teaches couples, and most of them also teach small groups of three or more, priced either per person or as one rate for the group. The rates table on each profile shows exactly what that instructor offers.
What if I can't agree a time with my instructor?
If you can't agree a time within 14 days, the deposit is refunded in full. Email hello@bachatalab.org and we will sort it out.
Which styles can I learn?
Between them the instructors teach Bachata Sensual, Bachata Moderna, footwork and musicality, and Brazilian Zouk. Each profile says what that instructor focuses on, along with their background and how long they have been teaching.
